If i use your designit software to calculate a beam or rafter size in a building designed otherwise to nzs3604 Is the design cert that is produced accepted by councils for building consent or is it just to be used as a guild and i will still need an engineer to confirm your products suitability.

Simon,
The Design Certificate produced by designIT should be sufficient for certification of designIT outputs. It should be noted that the provision of a Design Certificate is a move away from “Producer Statements”, that have been provided in the past. This is to further reflect the roles and responsibilities of member design using designIT. Whilst Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts certify the output of the program, the software is reliant on the user to input the appropriate design parameters. designIT, based on the inputted parameters, then calculates and provides design solutions together the selected size and any relevant Installation requirements that are not covered by NZ3604 and good building practice. Using the design information provided by designIT, either maximum span, or rigidity and capacity ratio a user can the select the appropriate size for specification.
For New Zealand Users a Structural Certification for the designIT software, signed by a Chartered Professional Engineer, can be accessed from the link below which can be provided to relevant Building Consent Authorities if requested.
